Structural Engineer

The successful candidate will be responsible for structural designs related to the wood products, mining and material handling industries. In this senior engineering role the individual will be responsible for projects involving general civil engineering knowledge, concrete and pile foundation design, and steel and wood structural design. Additional duties may include providing applications expertise to the design team, liaising with internal engineering personnel and subcontractors, as well as involvement in site project management. The preferred candidate will be a structural engineer (P.Eng.) with several years of practical experience relating to building and equipment foundation support design and experience in the utility industry, with a strong understanding of industrial plant and equipment. Experience overseeing projects would be an asset.

Candidate's duties/responsibilities may include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Structural engineering calculations.
  • Structural engineering plans, design, and layout.
  • Structural project specifications.
  • Structural engineering portion of project proposals.
  • Structural engineering portion of project cost estimates.
  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
  • May direct and supervise other Designers/Drafters activities.
  • Provide sketches / concepts to designers for drawing production.
  • Review / certify Structural detail drawings.
  • May serve as Project Engineer and as the designated client contact on projects.
  • May coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
  • Handle routine contract administration.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents.
  • Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area.
  • Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in the relevant discipline
  • Eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C.
  • A minimum of six years experience in the relevant engineering field.
  • Basic CAD skills
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Works precisely and pays close attention to details
  • Ability to work with other engineers and technical support staff
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate various complex technical studies and data
  • Ability to define and develop criteria and cost estimates for plant modifications and/or other major projects
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various internal and external sources for the purposes of gathering and relaying information, resolving issues of concern, etc.

Wages will be negotiable depending on experience.
